Zigbee

Gateway

Zigbee is designed specifically for low-power, local device communication. It connects to a gateway via ethernet cable and creates its own mesh network, meaning it doesn’t rely directly on Wi-Fi to operate.  

There are several advantages of installing this type of mesh network, including lower power consumption, where devices can communicate with each other, extending range and improving reliability without interference to your Wi-Fi network.

Once set up with the SIMI Smart app, you can control each Zigbee device from your screen or phone.  For your convenience, schedule devices to turn on or off automatically, so they are ready to go when you are!

Zigbee devices connect to a Zigbee gateway that must be connected to your modem via ethernet cable.  Please ensure that the gateway is always connected to your modem and power.

Adding Your Zigbee Device (Auto-Detected Setup)

  1. Connect your Zigbee Gateway
  • Place the Zigbee Gateway close to your internet modem and plug it into USB power.
    For best performance, the gateway should be placed in a central area of your building where possible.
  • Rapid flashing blue & red lights on the gateway means it is in pairing mode already. To reset the modem, hold the small reset button down until the gateway starts flashing (approx. 7 seconds)

 

  1. Wired Gateway Setup
  • Use the included network cable to connect the gateway directly to your modem (usually into a yellow LAN port). Make sure the cable is secured correctly.

 

  1. Open the SIMI Smart App
  • Launch the app on your screen or phone.
  • Tap the + symbol and add a new device.
  • The app will begin searching for the Zigbee gateway

 

  1. Add the Gateway
  • Wait for the app to detect the gateway automatically.
  • Tap to confirm and follow the setup prompts.
  • Once the connection is successful, tap Done.

 

✅ Your Smart Plug is now connected and ready to use!

  1. Add your Zigbee Devices
  • To add your Zigbee Devices to the gateway, click on the gateway and select Add a Subdevice
  • Make sure your Zigbee Devices are in pairing mode and add them to the gateway
  • Click on the pencil to name your devices & add them to a room

Gateway not connecting?

  • If the gateway doesn’t appear automatically:
     – Tap the menu in the top-left of the app.
     – Go to Gateway Control, then select your Zigbee Gateway from the list.
  • Follow the steps
     – Tap Done to finish.

Gateway offline?

  • Check that the gateway is plugged into both power and the modem
  • Avoid placing the gateway near thick walls, metal objects, or other electronics that may interfere with the signal. Try to position it in a clear, open area for the best connection.
